GMM 60/30 Challenge

What is the 60/30 Challenge?

The 60/30 is a commitment to 30 days of trying to stay in continuous, honest conversation with God, willing to do his will moment-by-moment. The challenge is to stay consciously aware throughout the day that God is with you and desires a loving, trusting relationship.

How does the 60/30 Challenge work?

Try to turn your thoughts back to God as often as you can - as you work, talk it over with God; at every interaction ask, “What do you want me to say?”; at every decision consider, “What’s your will here?”; and as you stay in conscious contact with God, willing to follow, the Holy Spirit will lead you into the life you deeply desire.

Any suggestions on how I can start?

We suggest you set an alarm to beep every 60 minutes on a cell phone or watch as a reminder to stay connected. You see, this simple conscious contact with God is not easy to do, but it’s all you have to do — everything else will begin to fall in place over time.

How long is the 60/30 Challenge?

October 27th - November 27th

How about if I’m not convinced?

Even if you’re not yet convinced — just try it. At least every 60 minutes for 30 days, stop and recall, “God is with me right now. He loves me and desires to give me good things — better than I can imagine,” and let that propel you to ask God, “Show me your will this next moment, I want to be willing to do your will as an act of love toward you.” Begin this experiment every 60 minutes for 30 days, and see if this isn’t the path to a far more satisfying life.

How can I share what God has done for me?

There is a facebook page where you can post your experiences as you try the 60/30 challenge. Start today and share what God has shown you throughout the month!

Thanks to Gateway Community Church for the idea :D

Verizon Donates $10,500 to the Durham Literacy Center to Fund CLIC

In an ongoing effort to empower Durham County adults who want to enrich their lives through literacy, the Durham Literacy Center (DLC), with the support of Verizon, is launching a Computer Literacy Program. The program will be called Computer Literacy Inspiring Community (CLIC). Stan Pace and Steve Toler, on behalf of Verizon, presented a check to DLC in the amount of $10,500 at the DLC Annual Meeting held on September 18, 2008 at the Durham County Library. Computer literacy classes will commence in October. Volunteers from IBM, Duke University and Grace Mission Ministries will assist with instruction.

The program will provide computer education and training to DLC students in order to improve productivity in current jobs and assist them in becoming eligible for further employment opportunities. Classes will be held at the DLC Lakewood Baptist Church facility (2100 Chapel Hill Rd Durham, NC 27707). Phase one of the computer literacy training program will last 14 weeks. CLIC will provide current literacy students with the basic knowledge and skill sets they need to advance themselves in life. Two concurrent classes, “Introduction to Computers” and “Basic Computer Work” will be taught by volunteer instructors.
